PHOTOS: Twist in the six-storey high coast project at Lake Balaton
Locals wanted to prevent concrete monstrosities from being built on the high coast of Aliga. In order to achieve this, the local community has obtained an immediate legal protection order, despite the fact that the project already had a building permit.
The Aliga Bathing Association (AFE) has reported the court’s decision that the construction of a 105-apartment condominium planned for the high beach must be suspended. The order argues that the environmental impact of the demolition of the high coast is in the public interest and must be protected.
The project already had a building permit and work had already started at the end of January but construction works needed to be terminated.
As a result, the high coast has been saved for now, but it is likely that the issue will continue with a court case. According to Forbes, the Municipality of Balatonvilágos has decided not to intervene to protect the high bank.
Looking after the interests of the community although locals have very limited say
The participants linked to the NER (National Cooperation System) are very active around the developments near Lake Balaton. NER was announced after the victory in the 2010 parliamentary elections as a new system representing a broad national unity and looking after the interests of the people and the community.
The huge investments planned for the coast often extend beyond the original plans and reach the coast, excluding local people. Permitting procedures have been transferred to government agencies, meaning that local communities have very limited say in such mega projects.
Major public construction projects
In the last few years, Bayer Construct Ltd. has also entered the residential real estate market. It has developed the condominium next to Bikás Park, the VABA Residential Park and the Elite Park in District XI. The Bayer group is also particularly active around Lake Balaton.
Last March, Bayer Construct purchased the stocks of Pro-Mot Hungária Ltd. Bayer has been the contract holder for major public construction projects in recent years. Its references include Váci Greens office complex, Agora Budapest, Etele Plaza, Puskás Aréna and several railway and road construction projects.
The architectural heritage of the high coast
The high coast itself and the area below it are naturally unique, wrote VálaszOnline. The architectural heritage here is also important to preserve.
The area of the former political party centre will be fundamentally transformed. The project enjoys strong government support and is a national economic priority, winning HUF 8.3 billion (EUR 21,641,029) in state funds.
